Leader of Ghana Shiah Community calls for release of Sheikh Zakzaky
The leader of the Shiah community in Ghana, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Jamaluddin, has called for the immediate release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.
The call came when he led the Arbaeen trek Ghana in Accra, reenacting the trials and tribulations faced by the family of the Prophet (SAWA) in the first century after Hegira.
Sheikh Zakzaky has been detained for nearly two years now, since the brutal attacks by the Nigerian Army on him and members of his Movement in December, 2015.
According to Shekih Abubakar, “Sheikh Zakzaky is being persecuted like all other Shiah leaders worldwide.” He went further to observe that authorities have recognized and persistently said that “he has not committed any crime.” Yet they keep him in detention. “He should therefore be freed,” Sheikh Abubakar said.
The Accra Arbaeen trek was carried out peacefully from their centre in Mamobi by Kwanka bus stop to Filin Ojo neighborhood in Accra.
