The Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the Global Free Zakzaky Campaign have started yet another round of letter writing campaign to get the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria freed.

The latest campaign involves writing to Members of Parliament in your own country demanding that they raise the issue of the blatant disrespect for the rule of law by the Nigerian government of Muhammadu Buhari and the continued detention of Sheikh Zakzaky for two years without charges and in contempt of a valid court judgement.

You are required to:
1. Write to your local MP and demand to raise this issue in Parliament. A model letter is provided below. For Nigerians, write to your Senator and Member representing your area in the House of Representatives urging them to raise the issue of Sheikh Zakzaky in the National Assembly.

Dear MP/Senator (Name),

Second anniversary of Zaria massacre and illegal detention of Sheikh Zakzaky

12th December 2017 marks the second anniversary of that horrendous Zaria massacre and illegal detention of IMN leader, Sheikh Zakzaky and hundreds of other IMN members in Nigeria.

I am writing to you to raise this issue in Parliament/National Assembly to demand justice for Zaria Massacre, immediate release of Sheikh Zakzaky and to halt the continuing persecution of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

In addition to the massacres of December 2015, and the hundreds of detentions without charge, or arrests and sentences based on trumped up charges, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky the Movement’s leader and Mu’allimah Zeenah remain imprisoned without charge despite a court order demanding their release from December 2016.

I am sure you agree that this is unacceptable state of affairs, and that the Nigerian Government must intervene to ensure that these injustices are rectified immediately.

I urge your office to take this issue to Parliament/National Assembly and take all necessary actions against the government of Nigeria until such a time as their political process returns to some form of democratic practice and due process.

Further, I demand immediate sanctions be placed against Nigeria for its continued violations of basic human rights norms in this and other cases.

I look forward to hearing from you soonest regarding the action your office will take in this matter.

Yours sincerely,
