The spates of Police brutality that characterized the waves of Free Zakzaky protests in the past one week has claimed the life of Ali Abdulkareem in Zaria.
This is the first death being reported in Zaria in the wake of the protests. There have been at least five deaths in Kaduna and Abuja before this latest one.
Ali, attained martyrdom when a combined team of policemen and hoodlums hired by the policemen brutally attacked the peaceful free Zakzaky procession in Zaria last Sunday using tear gas, clubs and sticks in an attempt to break the procession. As a result, Ali was suffocated with tear gas before the hoodlums got him battered with clubs and sticks, fatally hitting his head and neck. He didn’t recover from the injuries he consequently sustained.
His father, who was a driver in Sheikh’s house, was among the over a thousand people killed in the Sheikh’s residence between 12th and 14th December, 2015 during the genocidal attacks by the Buhari military led by Gen Buratai and Gen Oyebade. The crime against humanity was completed by Governor El-rufai, who hurriedly buried them in mass grave secretly at night at a place over a hundred kilometers away from the scene of this horrendous crime.
