Mammoth crowd storms Unity Fountain to demand El-Zakzaky’s release

– Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria protest against the prolonged detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky

– Convener of the Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju demand an end to the extrajudicial killings and harassment of members of IMN members

– Charly Boy called for an end to the intimidation and harassment of many Nigerians by the present administration

There is tight security at the Unity Fountain following a daily sit-out by a group, Concerned Nigerians.

Hundreds in the crowd usually members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) are protesting the prolonged detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Members of the group led by the convener of the Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju and ace presenter and musician, Charles, Oputa also known as Charly Boy have demanded for the unconditional release of El-Zakzaky.

They also demanded an end to the extrajudicial killings and harassment of members of the group.

Speaking on the demands, Adeyanju, said the daily sit-out became important after several intimidation and harassment meted out to members of the group.

Also decrying the prolonged detention of El-Zakzaky, Adeyanju called on President Muhammadu Buhari to obey court order mandating the release of the IMN who has been held by the State Security Services (SSS) since December 2015.

On his part, Charly Boy called for an end to the intimidation and harassment of many Nigerians by the present administration.

Charly Boy in Pidgin English said: “Make them know say all of us na Nigerians.” “What is happening in Nigeria today is not fair. This kind of systemic failure cannot even be sustained by the people who have created it. “I have never seem the kind of ethnic hatred that I have seen in this present regime. We can be called a sh!t hole because we have animals in human clothing. My demand is simple, they should release the man,” Charly Boy stated.

He further called on the federal to do more by going after the suspected herdsmen terrorising the country than those who have no history of violence attributed to them.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that the group had announced that it would commence an indefinite daily sit-out on Wednesday, January 17.

The group in a statement said the sit-out will be graced by various notable Nigerians including senior lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana and a former minister of education, Obiageli Ezekwesili.
