El-Rufai Dragged Before NHRC Public Hearing Over Zakzaky Hate Speech, Others

The Kaduna state governor, Nasiru El-Rufai has been dragged before the National Human Rights Commission over a number of offences related to hate speech during the North west zone public hearing.

The governor is well known for his verbal diarrhoea in his public speeches. He was quoted as saying, “I know the animal I am working with” when referring to the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, in a television program last year.

Dr. John Danfulani, who made the presentation today at the public hearing on complaints on hate speech and election related violence, said the animal talk on the revered Sheikh by the governor constitutes an excellent example of hate speech, for which the governor must be reprimanded.

He also cited several other cases of what undoubtedly can be considered classic examples of hate speech and presented at the public hearing.

The public hearing is taking place at the Federal High Court, Kaduna from 12th to 14th March, 2018.
