Sheikh Zakzaky’s Lawyers Officially Request To See Him

Lawyers of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, have officially written to the Director of the Department of State Security (DSS) requesting to see their client.

The letter dated 17th May, 2018 specifically demands for an unfettered access to the Sheikh on 21st or 24th of May, 2018. This will be in line with the order given by the court to be given such access within three days of such request by his lawyers.

Sheikh Zakzaky and the wife made an unexpected appearance at Kaduna state High Court before Justice Kurada last Tuesday, and were not heard from or seen thereafter, as the duo were taken to an undisclosed location where they remain held incommunicado.

The Islamic Movement had issued a press statement declaring the Sheikh and his wife missing amidst fears for their lives and wellbeing. The fear was worsened by the seeming disappearance of those who lived with them as well, who were not taken along with them to court, yet couldn’t be reached as well since they were forcibly severed from the duo.

It will be recalled that the court had asked that the Sheikh be taken back to the custody of the DSS, and also that the lawyers be given an unfettered access to their clients within three days of such request.

With this request therefore, it will put to test the readiness of the Nigerian government to henceforth obey court orders.

It will also allay fears and anxiety among the teeming members of the Islamic Movement across the country and beyond.
