A Thousand Days Since The Zaria Genocide, Groups Plan Massive Protests

As we mark the one thousandth day since the heinous crime of civilian genocide in Zaria by the Buhari-led Nigerian government, groups have called out for massive protests across the world to demand the release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, who has been in detention since then in spite of a Federal High Court judgement to the contrary.

In Nigeria, the Islamic Movement plans to mark the days with series of activities in Abuja and other towns across the country. A statement issued by the Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee stated that all is set for the day.

Similarly, the Concerned Nigerians have called for protest in Abuja today at 11:00 am at the Federal Secretariat.

A statement issued by the Convener of the Concerned Nigerians, Prince Deji Adeyanju, states that, “Join us as we demand the release of Sheik Zakzaky and his wife by 11:00am.”

According to Deji, the group will also “be demanding the prosecution of all those who participated in the massacre of 1,000 Shiites in Zaria.”

It added that ‪”it does not matter if you are a Christian or a Muslim” because as the statement concluded, “injustice knows no religion.”
