President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly going to Saudi Arabia for further instructions over what further to do with what they term the “knotty” issue of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. However, he is going under the pretense of accepting the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in the Kingdom.
Saudi Crown Prince had in April last year caused a stir when he divulged that his country was responsible for the heinous Zaria massacre and the continuing plight of Sheikh Zakzaky during a visit to the USA.
The Zaria massacre of December 2015 was followed by a beehive of activities between the two countries, and it wasn’t long before it was clear that the genocide was carefully planned and meticulously executed perhaps with Saudi money and support.
International observers believe that perpetrators of the Zaria massacre were paid millions of dollars by Saudi Arabia to kill Sheikh Zakzaky and the almost simultaneous killing of a top Saudi Shia cleric by the Kingdom at the time was meant to show the Nigerian collaborators how to do it.
Buhari along with some of his collaborators and associates had similarly rushed to Saudi Arabia to celebrate their “victory” in causing so much setback to Sheikh Zakzaky and his Movement. It was also announced at the time that Nigeria would join a Saudi-led axis against terrorism, and it was only the severe criticism of the Christians that made the government to backpedal.
Further meetings had taken place at different fora using different pretences as the Buhari government sought to conclude the execution of the contract to kill the Sheikh.
Last year, the Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umaru Ganduje and the Minister of Defence, retired Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali were both honoured by the Saudi authorities for their various roles in the continued persecution of the members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. Governor Ganduje was one of the foremost stooges that killed hundreds of members of the Islamic Movement in Kano as part of the ongoing brutal attempt to exterminate Shi’a in Nigeria. Dan Ali was recognized for using the military to execute the brutal attacks on the Shia population in Nigeria.
Well known Saudi-backed Wahabi clerics had the listening ears of the President, and had on a number of occasions visited the President, with such visits heralding some of the most vicious attacks on members of the Islamic Movement in the past. At the peak of the Zaria pogrom in December 2015, these clerics were the most outspoken in not only supporting the heinous crimes against humanity, but in fact justifying same.
The President will be accompanied by “close personal aides” for this visit. This comes as the Islamic Movement is preparing to celebrate the Annual Quds Procession in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. It is also coming on the heels of a medical assessment of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife in detention by foreign medical experts on the orders of the Kaduna High Court. The government has been working overtime to prevent the handing over to the Court of any report of the findings of these foreign medical experts.
