Police Absolve IMN Of Blame In National Assembly Incident

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has debunked the news trending that the members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria have shot dead policemen during their Free Zakzaky protest at the National Assembly complex yesterday.

This was disclosed by the FCT Police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah while answering questions from Journalists over the incident. He said no policeman died during the incident at the National Assembly.

According to the police spokesman, “We don’t have any casualty, no policeman died. Why would we hide such a thing? There was no casualty.”

Immediately the peaceful protest for the immediate and unconditional release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria was disrupted by security agencies, some media outlets quickly went to press with the news that IMN members had shot policemen and also seized their guns.

However, when contacted the Police public relations officer, Mr.Manzah categorically denied that any policeman was shot or even died. He also denied that the IMN members seized a gun from a policeman. He said, “No police gun is missing, we have no record that the Shiite members snatched guns from our men.”

At least two members of the Islamic Movement were killed and over a hundred arrested when the peaceful Free Zakzaky protest reached the National Assembly and was subsequently disrupted by the security forces, including the police and Civil Defence officials. That prompted the swift circulation of fake but disturbing news that IMN members attacked policemen, shooting and killing several, which forced the House of Reps to hurriedly adjourn sitting.

That was followed by the circulation of very disturbing images and video clips allegedly of IMN members rioting, smashing cars and torching properties, in what now appears to be a carefully orchestrated plot to label the IMN as violent, so as to damage the support base of the Movement.

The IMN however had earlier learnt of this devilish plot and had indeed issued a press statement since last week, exposing the plot and dissociating itself of any complicity.

It has become expedient to make this clarification that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has never employed the use of violence or the issuance of threats of violence in its entire four decades of existence to anyone, group or authority. This is not about to change,” the statement had stated.

“Our peaceful Free Zakzaky campaigns over the past years since the government-sponsored genocide is enough attestation of our peaceful disposition even in the face of extreme provocation.”

The statement further stated that “anyone seen threading the path of violence can never be one of us” because Sheikh Zakzaky has never ever preached violence.”

It would appear that the government sent moles within the Movement to try to tarnish the image of the Islamic Movement. This much has been severally stated by police officials on several occasions that their men are within the Movement.

It was the handiwork of these men to try to instigate violence so that it would be taken as it was IMN members doing it.

in an attempt at justifying Buhari’s glaring failures in all spheres of governance.
