The Nigerian army has redeployed to Jaji the Commandant, Headquarters Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen Umar Thomas Musa, who was responsible for the death last year October, of nearly 50 Arbaeen Trek solemn religious marchers in Abuja.
In his place, Brig.-Gen M.T Usman from Headquarters 28 Task Force Brigade was made Commander, Headquarters Guards Brigade Abuja.
It would be recalled that the Brigade of Guards under the command of Brig-Gen U.T. Musa had extra judicially killed members of the Islamic Movement, who were on a religious mourning procession over three consecutive days in Abuja last year.
A New York Times 8 minutes investigative video evidence had shown 8 incontrovertible facts about the Nigerian army’s killing of peaceful Shiite protesters in the outskirts of Abuja, the national capital, at the end of October.
The soldiers that did those killings, New York Times observed, were not regular soldiers but were from the elite unit of Brigade of guards (whose primary duties are to protect the Presidency). Their involvement in the attacks goes on to suggest the involvement of the presidency in the incessant persecution of the Shiites in the country because as the New York Times noted, their chain of command indicates that they report directly to the President.
Brigadier Musa now ironically becomes Acting Commandant Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre Jaji.
