Reports reaching the Islamic Movement in Nigeria have confirmed the death in custody of 3 more detainees, who were shot during Free Zakzaky protest in Abuja earlier this week. The two were among those held in SARS custody at their headquarters, Abuja since Monday 22/07/19 without access to medical care.
This brings to five the number detainees who died in custody since the mass arrest after the free Zakzaky protest.
There appears to be fear that more could die in custody because there are not fewer than 15 others in the detention with various degrees of bullet wounds being denied access to medical attention, including women and a child with his leg shattered by bullets.
All attempts to allow them access medical care have fallen on deaf ears, an indication that the authorities are waiting for them to slowly die in excruciating pains.
Unfortunately, when it comes to dealing with the Shiites, the security agencies throw all known laws and conventions to the dogs, and indulge in open savagery as exhibited last Wednesday, when after torturing one of those they arrested with boiling water, the police dumped him by the roadside.
We are therefore calling on the international community and Human Right activists and organizations to have a look at this inhumanity taking place at the dreaded SARS headquarters in the most severe forms of degradation and dehumanizing conditions.
We also call on the police to hand over to us the wounded persons so that at least their lives can be saved. The dead bodies of the supporters of the Islamic Movement should also be handed to us, so that their families can give them a befitting Islamic funeral rite. Resorting to the use of mass grave for burial is a war crime.
