All is set for the medical journey to India to be embarked upon by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife later today.
The journey followed the ruling of a Kaduna high court that granted the application by the lead Counsel to the couple, Femi Falana, SAN that the duo be allowed medical leave to attend to their failing health in Mendata Hospital in New Delhi, India.
An air of uncertainty trailed that order by the court when the Kaduna state government said they have appealed against the court ruling and they were going to impose some fresh conditions that the court had not stated, which would have made the trip, deemed an emergency, nearly difficult if not impossible.
Some of the conditions included that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should confirm the appointments of the defendants/applicants with the Medanta Hospital, India, and undertake all necessary diplomatic arrangements and protocols to ensure compliance with the conditions of the medical leave.
However, Falana jettison the government’s conditions and insisted that the Kaduna state government, being a party to the case, can’t unilaterally put conditions that the arbiter, the court, didn’t put.
The Sheikh will be accompanied on the trip by the DSS, who the court had said should supervise the trip, and some very close family members.
before his departure or not.
