President Accuses SAUDI ARABIA, QATAR of Sponsoring BOKO HARAM

Former president of Benin Republic, Nicephore Soglo, has accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of funding Boko Haram.

Soglo, who spoke at the constitutional term limits summit in Naimey, Niger Republic, said Africans must stand united to solve their own problems.

“Boko Haram is funded by our friends from Saudi Arabia and our friends from Qatar. Are we friends or not? Let’s tell ourselves the truth,” the President said.

“We have to stand together. I’m optimistic we are going to win if we stand together,” Soglo said.

This has long being known in many quarters but the present administration has been getting even closer to both Saudi Arabia and Qatar with several high powered meetings between Nigeria and the duo.

It will be recalled that President Buhari had disclosed in Qatar, during a state visit that his government was responsible for the brutal clampdown on the Islamic Movement, which resulted in the extra judicial murder of over a thousand Nigerian citizens and mass grave burial, in order to impress his sponsors.

That disclosure came shortly after the Boko Haram kingpin, Abubakar Shekau, had threatened the leader and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria of dire consequences if they do not embrace his brand and interpretation of Islam.

Ever since then, we saw scandalous negotiations between Buhari government and Boko Haram, which resulted in the release of murderous leaders of the heinous group and payment of substantial funds to the group, which enabled them to not only regroup, but to rearm and manifest in a more devastating manner.

There has been also unwillingness of the government to fight the deadly group. Few people believed what the government had said that they have “technically” defeated the group.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the recent downgrading of Boko Haram from the level of terrorists to bandits by the government.
