The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari was yesterday booed and jeered as he ran into the earlier scheduled “OccupyBuhari” protest that was ongoing in front of the Nigeria House in London, where he had gone for a private visit.
The protest was earlier called by a coalition of groups including the Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, the Islamic Human Rights Commission of London and the Islamic Initiative for Human Rights Protection. Other groups that jointly organized the protest include Concerned Citizens, Afenifere UK, IPOB and the Free Sowere Movement.
Not surprising, the protest called for the immediate release of the incarcerated leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of Revolution Now, Sowere and a host of other political detainees.
As Buhari tried to run away in his car away from the mass protest, a giant banner of Sheikh Zakzaky was waved to his face with the inscription: “Free Zakzaky” and “Buhari Stop Poisoning Sheikh Zakzaky” boldly on it.
Others shouted “Ole” meaning thief in Yoruba language. This will be considered as apt since he has stolen our freedoms.
