Flashback: Islamic Movt Joins Others To Mark International Women’s Day In Abuja

Members of the Islamic Movement on a day like today the 8th of March, last year, joined several other groups to mark the International Women’s Day in Abuja with a protest, as last year the day coincided with the auspicious birthday of the leader of women, Sayyedah Fatima (AS), the daughter of Prophet (S).

The protest march was organized by a coalition of groups, including the Coalition in Defence of Nigeria Democracy and Constitution, Bring back our girls movement and the Concerned Nigerians among several others. Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria were part of the protest as well, which used the opportunity to call for renewed action on the Dapchi girls and other abducted girls, including the Zaria girls.

Members of the Islamic Movement marked the day in various ways.

The protest also called for the rights of women and girl child, while condemning government inaction in protecting the women and girl child from the dangers of terrorism, kidnapping, hunger and various other hardships.

There was also a different very colourful procession and parade that chanted “Happy Birthday Ya Zahra, Government free Zakzaky” all along the path of the procession by members of the Islamic Movement.

This one started also at the Unity Fountain and terminated at the Ademola Adetokumbo by IBB street at the junction leading to Wuse zone 4, Abuja. The procession was led by Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello. It was accompanied by women and children in very colourful attires with band to match the rhythm.

In his speech to close the procession, Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello congratulated the entire women and indeed all mankind on the auspicious occasion of the birthday of Sayyedah Fatima (AS) and also called for the immediate and unconditional release of Sheikh Zakzaky.
