Members Of The Islamic Movt Mark Ashura In Over 300 Towns Across Nigeria

The Nigerian government-backed fight against the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and its leadership today suffered a huge setback as hundreds of thousands of members of the Movement took to the streets of over 300 towns across Nigeria, including the southern towns in Imo, Rivers, Delta, Edo, Lagos and Oyo states to mark this year’s Ashura.

This year’s Ashura procession was tagged “the victory of blood over swords” in clear reference not only to the victory of Imam Hussein’s revolution over swords of his enemies but also an indication of the apparent victory of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his Islamic Movement against the brutal massacre by the Nigerian government since 2015.

The Nigerian government had launched audacious heinous attacks against the Movement and its leadership in December 2015, resulting in the death of over a thousand people within the first weekend and the secret construction of mass graves to conceal their crimes. That was followed by the destruction of all the Movement’s structures and property, in an attempt to obliterate the mention of the Movement entirely.

The Movement’s response has been swift and legitimate, meeting them in courts and winning over the ten cases decided thus far against the government. It has also responded by continuing with its religious observances such as Ashura and the Arbaeen symbolic treks among others. Hence, the significance of this year’s Ashura procession, that held in over 300 towns and cities across Nigeria, including the Southern parts of the country.
