Additional Worshipper Killed By Police In Kaduna As He Marks Maulid

This evening, an additional worshipper, Aliyu Nasir, has been shot dead by Nigerian police in Kaduna while marking the Maulud in commemoration of the birthday of the Holy Prophet (S). This brings to at least two, the number of people killed today in Kaduna state while celebrating the Maulud. Earlier today, police had killed Muhammad Salisu in Zaria in similar circumstances. Casualties Recorded In Zaria As Police Open Fire On Maulud Anniversary

At least four worshippers were shot and variously injured this morning as a contingent of the Nigerian Police in Zaria indiscriminately opened fire at worshippers celebrating the Annual Maulud event marking the birthday of the Prophet (S). The police, who arrived as the closing prayers were being offered, opened fire at pointblank range without warning and hurriedly ran into their vehicles and left the scene. A very colourful Maulud procession that preceded that had ended peacefully without an incident.

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has again secured two favourable landmark judgements in Jos, the Plateau state capital within one week against various governmental agencies. In the latest judgement delivered today 13th November, the High Court in Jos ruled that the arrest and subsequent detention of two members of the Islamic Movement resident in Jos, Idris Muhammad and Awwal Hussein, by officers of the Nigerian Army contravenes their fundamental rights and the right to free association.
